You are on the right track. I typically focus on what they don't want me to have, and try to obtain that. Since I am in the US, it is now "illegal" for Kaspersky VPN to sell to US citizens. Of course there are ways around this which I explain in the premium forums, but Kaspersky VPN is what I use and it is solid. There are others as well, just avoid the US or US friendly  companies such as ExpressVPN, etc. Even if the company claims they keep no logs, all it takes is a signature from a corrupt judge and your data is in their hands. The best way is to stay offshore if you are in the US. If in Asia or Europe, select a country offshore from you. Of course, using an anonymous payment method such as crypto is a plus as well.
