Are there any tips on recovering a corrupt wallet.dat file from bitcoin core that will not load? It will not open in Bitcoin Core, just sits on the loading screen thanks

Sounds like corruption of some kind, have you tried opening another known good wallet?

Yes I have another Bitcoin wallet.dat file with some coins in it, it loads within seconds but if I try the other wallet.dat it just gets stuck and says opening wallet forever. Also my Bitcoin Core install is up to date and synced with the entire Blockchain, no pruning.

Do you know the origin of these wallets? Some wallet.dat files created by other clients like Litecoin will exhibit this behavior if you attempt to open them in Bitcoin Core. Try opening them in a Litecoin or other client.

If you open the wallet.dat in notepad++ or similar editor, search for the string 'name'. The addresses you find will usually begin with the letter "L" if it is a litecoin wallet and "1" if it is bitcoin.

I installed bitcoin core but it took several hours to load so I downloaded the majority of the blockchain from this torrent then let bitcoin core download the newer blocks. It saved hours of time:

Any updates on this one? I have a wallet file which will not open either, it just sits and spins in Bitcoin core
